I was wondering if the woven bags that sand etc is delivered in could be used as a geo-fabric to be put down in between the sand bedding and the sub base, your advice is most welcome,Keith.

I assume you are referring to laying Block Paving.

The fabric is supposed to go between the sub-soil and the hardcore. The sand is supposed to go directly on top of the compacted hardcore.

If you are going to use a fabriuc, I would recommend Terram or similar. I use Lotrak. You can buy small quantitys from local BMs or even DIY shops

It is not essential to use a geo-fabric - or GeoTextile in the construction of Block Paved driveways. I often use it if there has been bushes or a large amount of soil in the sub grade. There is no need to use it if the clay is of a hard base and you use plenty of quality Sub Base

But to your question. I would not reccomend the use of old Bulk Bags as a GeoTextile Membrane.

The bags are unacceptable, as well as silt fencing, another mistake contractors make here in the States.

ICPI guidelines do not require the use of woven geotextile soil seperator for residential driveways, sidewalks or patios , but my personal opinion is that it is a great investment for all paving situations.

The agg-bags are a waste of time. Read the Do I need a Membrane? FAQ for a fuller explanation of why, or why not, as the case may be.
