I just purchased 16sqm 600x600 black slate slabs 25mm thick and had a bugger of a time laying them , some way out of square , 590 was the smallest, 608 was the biggest.
Is this quite common??
I would have just thought if it is sawn then it would be sawn to 600x600.
Its just not fun trying to grind out the jointing gaps to make it look right !!

did you contact the supplier?
I would have backed it TBH
looking at 1-3 mm max on sawn products and ideally nothing

What LLL said.

Would expect that of cheap crap quality riven sandstone, not sawn anything.

Yeah i brought it up with the supplier and they said there is a tollerance 1-3 mm ...They can replace the bad ones but need the job done yesterday so we just had to spend the extra time sorting it out instead of waiting another day or 2 for new delivery!! Paid 27+vat per sqm from a very reputable London stone supplier ...

I am in India at the moment and have just logged on and seen this post. Did you buy this slate from us? I will assume that you did as I dont know anybody else in London who sells 25mm slate for £27 per m2.

How many of the slabs were effected by this problem?

If it was us and it sounds like it was then I would like to apologise. We have used the same Chinese slate supplier for the past 5 years and have never had any quality issues with it. We pay more than the market rate for our slate to ensure the quality is right.

Due to some weather problems over in China we have been out of stock of our ususal slate for the past 4-5 weeks. This resulted in us having to source a container of slate from a UK base wholesaler. All I can assume is that we have supplied this slate for your project. I am not trying to dodge any responsobility here, it lies with us ( we should have quality checked what we purchased from this supplier) but the explanation I have given is a genuine one.

I am in India so I am not sure of the full details but it sounds like you contacted the office to make them aware of the problem? I would be very surprised if they would have made you wait 2 days to change the slabs over. We have a policy where we always change slabs over the same day or next day at the latest. We all come from a landscaping background at London Stone, so are fully aware of the cost of delays to material arriving on site. Please contact me and let me know the full details of what happened and I can assure you it will be made right.
