Guys

As I am now much older, our 1000 mile trip to Italy needs breaking up in the middle. We have 3 kids (17 13 and 9 so need a big room/two interconnects and our requirement is safe car park, safe hotel, clean, somewhere to eat and a decent breakfast, not a million miles off the motorways.

Our route is Norfolk Line Dunkirk down through Luxembourg to Metz, cross the border at Strasbourg. Sometimes we go through Germany to Weil am Rhein, other times we stay in France to Colmar crossing into Switzerland near Basel. Down through the Gotthard tunnel and crossing into Italy at Coldrerio/Como Chiasso.

Where we have been staying the last 2/3 years is the Postillon at Beckenreid, right off the motorway, nice outlook but getting dated and getting very expensive.

In an ideal world an alternative would be the half-way point so about 450/500 miles from Dunkirk and therefore vice versa, Postillon is a touch too close to our Italian destination. ore than happy to modify route slightly and tailor the ferry crossings to suit the halfway point, or even use two different hotels this year on the outward and return.

Discuss please?

No mate can't say I do. Please do repost it or send me a link to the previous thread.
We've been doing it for 20 years now. But straight thru all the way is becoming a struggle for me nowadays.

ive done manchester to munich in 9 hours before(crossing excluded) and a drove a band from amsterdam in zurich in 10 hours after a legendary night in the dam hehe worst was 1500 in 35 hours germany and back in an old transit with no seat adjustment with my belly pressing on the wheel and no sleep hehe. fun times :). my mate whos a roadie drove a band from new york to LA in one straight go with no stops think there was a lot of chemical assistance though lol.

hi johnny
we drove to bergamo, the other issues was parking, italians love small cars and a lot of car parks have been laid out with small cars in mind
we intended to stay near Reims or Vercy on the stop, but in retrospect we perhaps should have gone a bit farther south
Dijon maybe
the mont blanc tunnel was no fun at all and the gottard was a real hair raiser on the way back
I dont enjoy driving at all and back to planes now :;):
