after much head scratching by the clients decided to drive them to Londonstone's HQ
for one reason and another they didnt want to come in my car (kidnap io expect) so we set off in 2 motors
all went swimmingly till we got to the roundabout at Jct 14 of the m25
an ominous sign read "road closed"
mr and mrs X decided to follow the diversion
mr,mrs, and miss lout went for it,after some sillines with cones and holes we got to LSHQ 25 minutes before the clients
first appearance, very impressed with the contempory look of the showroom
and a really good selection of stone paved out front about 37 types IIRC followed by some fantastic stone tiles inside
rebecca and cosim couldnt be more helpful (unlike most merchants) and so the clients managed to pick the stone they like happy days
I am sure steve wont mind me putting up a couple of pictures of bits that caught my eye
A wall cladded with offcuts, very effective
travertine bath, last time i saw one of these it was costing £7k
who is going to carry that up the stairs?
saw these tiles inside, completely forgot the name but they are georgeous
more travertine
and some outdoor paving
the installation was very good but i feel that the joints were a little on the tight side, its ok doing smallish panels with 8 mm joints but as you go 20M things start adding up
but just my observation
the stone block paving really caught mine and my wife's eye it looks great
all in all well worth a 60 mile round trip
IMHO
cheers LLL

I tell you what mate,it was busy for 3 o clock on a saturday afternoon, you can tell it s a paver that has set it out
I know steve bucked the trend with their 25mm calibrated stone but i picked up a flag and that extra 3mm made it feel it had something more about it
(an extra 3mm of stone all over i expect )
you been there yourself LPAD?
cheers LLL

Thanks for the positive comments. The place will look a lot better when we finally get it finished off properly.
The elite gold tiles that you like the look of LLL were not that popular with clients. We cleared a load of them on ebay recently for silly money. We have got one crate left in the 560x420 size (about 20m2)
We have got our tiler starting on Monday to revamp the inside of the showroom with all of our new interior tiles. Will post a few progress shots as we go.
When we opened the showroom at Stanwell Saturday was considered to be an easy day. You could sit there are read the paper all day and you might see one or two customers all day. Its got to the point now where we are even struggling with 2 people on a Saturday.
what stone did the client go for Tony?

tony , you are right. Its very impressive.
I went in for some easipoint. very helpful staff in the office.
However, when it came to collecting the bags, another story. Not very helpful forklift driver, who took 10 minutes to get the stuff, only to fob me off woth some split bags
I will be going back soon, or having a delivery as i have two jobs looming requiring a few bags!

well no point having it smooth at front of house and fecktards in the yard, its not grassing,if no one mentions things like that that then customers would be put off
I only know of 2 yard men in my whole career as a builder who i would describe as moderately helpful,
The rest are a rag tag bunch of ex-cons,ne'er do wells, and folk with behavioural problems
who suddenly 2 weeks before xmas every year have a moment of clarity and decided to be helpful in the prospect of a crate of beer
hehe

Apologies for that DDD, you must have caught them on an off day Dig Dug, because the lads in the yard are diamonds To be fair those lads are overworked and we give them far too much to do. I have been spending half my time outside for the past 4 weeks and will do so for at least the next 2 months just to keep everything ticking over.dig dug dan wrote:tony , you are right. We had a situation a month ago due to sheer volume of work where the yard went into meltdown. Cosmin, our top bloke in the yard was spending too much time in the office dealing with paperwork and transport issues. This meant that he could not be in the yard working with the rest of the lads, checking orders and keeping everything running smoothly. I have now taken over Cosmins paperwork which has freed him up to manage the lads in the yard properly. Since we have done this things have run a lot smoother. Its not really a long term solution but it will get us through May, June & July. Once August comes we will start looking for a yard manager to do the job I have had to step in to do.
Next time you come in Dan give me a shout

will do steve.
I found your place easy to get to and had ample parking which was a bonus.
I am always going past with crusher deliveries, so its not much of a detour to pop by
cheers for the feedback
