Newbie question!. - Marshals heritage bedding

Hi all - first post on here.

I'm about to start a garden paving project (about 30sq m of patio) at home and the boss has decided that she wants Marshals Heritage Yorkstone paving. Looking at the literature on the Marshals website, they say that this product should be bedded on mortar - after extensive reading on pavingexpert (!), I had decided to bed them on a 10:1 cement bound gritsand bed.

Just checking that I'm on the right track with this - any input gratefully received.

You're on the right track. Laying them on mortar is overkill, unnecessarily takes up time and money and runs the risk of staining. Post pictures of the finished job

i would lay them on 5:1 grit sand cement mixture
effectively this is mortar,just a different terminolgy for bedding layer
most lads on here agree that 10:1 is too weak and for the sake of an extra 4 bags of cement @£12 why scrimp after paying so much for the slabs
are you having calder brown?

I'll use a 5:1 mix as suggested - as you say,the difference in cost isn't worth worrying about.

It's a toss up between calder brown and yorkstone at the moment.

Another question - I'm intending to trowel point them with a cement mortar. Is this a good option for these flags or would another method be better?

trowel pointing is fine .you could use a jointer also . i like raised pointing myself on natural stone . you could also use a jointing product like romex etc . easy to use.
