Problems brushing in kiln dried sand - Water surfacing on paving during sanding

Tony,

Sent you an email the other week asking about suggestions regarding soft clay and soggy sub base problems. Using the methods you suggested (but also re-digging out some areas) I managed to get to a point of having a firm sub base, and got the paving laid and cut etc.
Today I tried to brush in the kiln dried sand and I've never seen so much water appear (squirting up in places) from between the blocks when I ran the wacker over the paving. It seems like the whole area is like this.
When we were digging out the area we noticed that water seemed to be draining from the garden (after all the rain) and flowing into the (lower) dug out area. Now although we managed to get re-dugout and the dolomite in wihtout much water getting back in, I think that water has continued to drain into the dolomite under the paving after further rain.
Do you think the area eventually dry out to allow me to sand it properly?

Eventually, yes, but it could take a few nmonths at this time of year. All you can do is top-up the sand every time we get a dry spell.

The vibrtaion from the plate compactor has the effect of 'pumping' water and bedding material up through the joints, so best not to use it again unless absolutely necessary, and even then, leave it until next spring, if possible.

I didn't run the wacker over the whole area due to the water appearing immediately - I just tried it out briefly in a few different places to see if most of the area was like this.
So basically it's not compacted yet. Presumably topping up with sand will do until the point when I can sand and wack it properly in the spring?

If you haven't compacted properly, then you need to do so at the first available opportunity. This weekend is supposed to be 'not too bad' so, if you can, get it done then.
