I was thinking of building my own soak away? I have now found out you can buy them built? What would you suggest?

Many thanks?

Where do you get pre-built soakaways?

Wavin blue soak away cells, about £40/50 each but the proper way to do it.
Most BM's ESP the larger civils branches will stock them.

I picked up my storm crates for £31 each with £10.90 delivery - just google 'storm crate'.

The ones I bought take 190l and 40 tonne of weight.

Unfortunately, my soakaway plans have become a sump and a pump :(

How come you are now using a sump and a pump?

I have read on here how to work out how many creates you need. my drive is 45m2> i worked out i need 4 190l creates.. does that sound correct to you?

Also they do not mention about putting a solid 'lid' on. I take it its ok to just wrap the geo-textile material around and to cover them in gravel?

Many thanks

Adam,

I left it to a geologist mate to tell me what I needed. 2 crates was apparently plenty for an area 25 square metres with average rainfall. However, the percolation test results weren't too encouraging (topsoil sits on compacted concrete) and I don't want to dig too deep.

I'll run a pipe from the pit back up to the guttering down pipe and install a dirty water pump at a later date if and when needed.

I don't think you can get away with just the sheet and gravel as the crates have big holes. There's a diagram on the main site showing how to construct a proper soak away.
