Wether we believe or not makes feck all difference at the end of the day, there's nothing we could do about any of it anyway. They say now he did try to surrender, that his wife tried to protect him, that the Pakistanis knew he was there, seems to me the news just bullshits as much as the rest of us. We will never be told the real truth, not for a few years anyway.

Giles that list is just someone's uninformed personal opinion. There's no mention of the SBS whom the military regards as better than the SAS there's also no mention of the FRU (force recon unit who used to be called 14 int or the det. These men and women are in a different world to any other organisation when it comes to counter terrorist surveilance they are basically the daddies and few SAS/SBS are good enough to join them but the FRU would all pass their selection. Also not included are the Australian SAS who are just as good as ours because so many brits have transfered over for a better quallity of life and they do exactly the same training.
As for Delta they are the most specialised American unit and are much better than Seals and are also still officially not in existance according to the government. Because of this most ops they do are claimed by other units. They have equivilent numbers to the SAS but there are way more Seals. They would have assualted that compound carrying both lethal and non lethal weapons. They say he was unarmed but resisted so much they had to kill him. He's a flipping pensioner who is on dialisis for christs sake and from the amateurish way he handles a weapon in the videos you can tell he's a leader not a fighter so he would easily have been subdued.

As for the det see this http://www.eliteukforces.info/the-det/

They were trained by 22 sas and a surveillance force trained to avoid direct contact and they used sas/sbs lads on their tours. Now called the srs I think but we also have the fru a bit of a copy of the American marines recon but again good troops but not there kind of mission.

Yeah sbs are taken from ppl passing the sas induction then trained in diving, surveillance etc but we'd have used the sas not the sbs for this mission if it was us.

From a us military mate discussing similar on fb

JSOC went after and got him. The members of JSOC are DEVGRU (Former SEAL Team 6), SFOD (Delta Force), 75th Rangers, and 160th SOAR. Just because the SEALS got all the credit, that does not mean that the others weren't there as well. Delta does not like getting it's face in the paper.

The SBS consist entirely of Marines no army personell are allowed to join and they are based and trained in a different location to the SAS. The SAS recruit from all services.
Initially the Det were trained by them but they quickly started up their own in house training and selection so became totally independant. The Det became the FRU after Ireland closed down and they started to operate worldwide although they have now been absorbed by MI5 over here and continue to operate against the dissidents. The FRU are a branch of the SRS who also encompass signals and other echelons. Only a couple of SAS at a time served on secondment with them and they still had to do the same training. They certainly aren't a copy of any US unit because no other country has the capabilities they have which is why the Americans use them for close target stuff on their own Ops in the middle east.

I love all this stuff ,who is the best of the best of the best etc. but an old work colleague (1para)tells me there is no glamour in special forces, lying in a hedge for a week at a time in the balkans sh*&ting in plastic bags and eating cold food is where its at,,extreme surveillance
then 10 minutes of action after months of this
he said they had to break into a place looking for a warlord/gangster ,kicked a door in and a 12 yr old lad is pointing an AK47 at him
split second choice
so he smashed the lad in the face with the butt of his gun
I dont think i would personally like to make those choices, life or death choices
when i see a man who works every day and brings his children up right, that is a kind of hero to me
a lot of men living on the edge leave a wake of broken lives behind them
LLL
