I'm putting the sub-base down in 2 layers and wacking each time. However, the amount of dust that came up doing the first layer was unbelievable. Seems to have got everywhere into the house. I even had to wash the neighbour's car as it looked like half of the Sahara Desert had been dumped on it.
Before I wack the 2nd layer, can I hose it down to surpress the dust or will that have an adverse effect on the compaction?
Cheers
Paul

You can damp it down with a mist to supress dust, don't soak it but damp it down,
They do this on road building with big tractor drawn sprayers

There is a moisture tolerance for Type 1 and if it is delivered to site bone dry or sopping wet, it is out of tolerance and can be sent back to the supplier as unfit for purpose.
The required moisture content is 8-13% by weight. The problem is that you need some fancy lab kit to determine the moisture content.
