I thought wifi was free

hi all i have been working in london since xmas and have no internet access so five weeks ago i decided to get a android phone a htc desire...the only place i have been using the phone to get net access is in my works canteen where it has wifi.....hotel i where i stop during the week that has wifi...at home where i have wifi.
i have just got my first bill of orange since getting the phone and it is five quid dearer than normal.so i had a look at the itemised billing it said the fiver was for internet use

so is that bill telling me i have used up my monthly free half a mega thingy plus a fiver....it would be nice to hear a few thoughts before i ring orange up and see what the score is

You'll get charged for the internet usage in non wifi hotspots, when it uses 3g to connect to the internet.

I think the whole 'free' wifi thing is crap anyhoo. My iPhone picks up the free wifi networks, yet is slower to connect than using the 3g to connect.

mcdonalds is your friend for free wi fi

you probably have a cap on data download even if the Wi fi is free
you can soon use half a gig on "movie" sites
