Hi Experts,
Are manhole cover on the driveways is broken. It split into two when my husband drove over it. We purchased one from B&Q but it wont fit, I guess it was fitted in then the tarmacs spread over the sides of the cover. We bought a 450mm cover which is the right size, but we will need to get rid of of some of the tarmac at the sides for the cover to actually fit in properly. Can you please advise how best to go about sorting this issue out without it costing us alot of money.
Thanks
helen

Hi Helen,
you will need to chip away at it with a hammer etc, no easy solution i'm afraid. You could replace the whole thing, cover and frame. Try and avoid any of the material falling into the i c. Is it very deep? Make sure there are two of you because 450 manholes are quite dangerous if you go in head first, you'd never get out on your own.

As Sean says, chip away at the mortar holding the frame into position, remove frame, fit new frame on thin bed of mortar and then fill the gap left between frame and tarmac with mortar, then paint black when gone off, job done
