The website's step-by-step shows Jointing then Compaction, then on another page explains it best to do it the other way round. I'm a bit confused to which way round to do it.
Shall we have a vote?

It all depends on the block. If they're easily marked or spalled then cover with sand first otherwise compact them then dress with sand and compact again.

Whack it then sand a block with a chamfered edge is not going to spall easily.

wacking first uses less sand than wacking after

1) option. Sand it and than compact it. Disadvantage is that once bricks sanded, they woun`t compat as well and some minor uneven brick migth. Simply say, they dond compact as good. Advantage is that area will not loose straight lines. (patern will be as you did it with no changes.)
2) option. Compact and than sand it. Disatvantage that patern lines might swivel slightly. And if wacker plate is really heavy you might do some other damage to brick itself. Advantage, that area will be better compacted.

I do 80% nr1. option, and only when bricks layed on send and cement base or with machine lay I use nr2 option. So for patio, I vote for sand it, than compact it.

Sanded but then brushed it all off, then whacked it, then sanded it again. Worked for me. :D
