I have been asked to look at some alternative pavings for a canal side towpath in the location of the lock gates.
The desired paving (by the client) would be Setts I am a little worried that the angle they will be laid at may not provide a safe surface. ( 1:12)
Does anyone know if any particular standards would apply or what the slip resistance of setts is ??
Has anyone done a job like this that they may have a spec for
or any Ideas on making it a safe surface perhaps with some kind of raised slip resistant type jointing method. ???

normally for ramps of that pitch ,especially if they are designed to be wheelchair friendly, then bar faced slabs are used, not the most attractive but very practical
i would have thoughts setts would be more in keeping but you may need handrails

Yes my thoughts exactly in fact I have been to site today and am a bit worried the slope is actualy 1:6 and the samples he had were 100mm granite setts or a block pavor with 8 small sett type design pressed into it I dont even know the name of it but it does not appear to have any anti slip characteristics.
(part of this will be accesible to the public)

Who gives clients such crazy ideas???
