Hagg, its basically natural stone block paving. Sawn 4 edges, calibrated underside, natural top and then tumbled just a little bit. They are supposedd to be butt jointed and then sanded up after.

What cut edges do you mean Hagg?

I asked my business partner about what they use for the bull nosing and they use a variety of different things depending on the stone which is to be used. We then a sait abrasive paper to get the finish. Also its much better if you have got a grinder with adjustable speed

We have just installed this bullnosing machine at our depot in Stanwell. Its much quicker than doing it manually with a grinder but does not give quite as good a finish. In order to get the right finish we just need to go over it with a hand held grinding pad. Still much quicker than hand though.

The new saw has really improved the Yorkstone production but is nowhere near as clean as it should be

The Yorkstone waste pile is still growing.

Image

We have decided on a couple of products which we can make from waste so hopefully we can start to make a dent in it. One of the products we are going to make are Sawn & Tumbled Yorkstone sets in 300x150 size.

We have started to stock limestone slab which we will turn into step treads and landing stones. In the past we have always ordered finished steps and landing stones straight from our foreign suppliers but we wanted to get a bit more control over the production, and more importantly the lead times.

These slabs have come from a UK supplier and are delivered to site strapped donw on to large A frames. There has been a lot of new safety regulations for slab delivered on A frames due to a couple of deaths caused by slabs falling off A frames. One of them happpened at a company in Wandsworth when a delivery driver forgot to put his stabilisers legs down. The truck lurched when the weight was transfered and about 6 tons of slabs fell onto 3 people. One guy died and the other two were injured. All because of some idiot lorry driver.

On the subject of health and safety we had a recent review from our H&S guys and we have had to make lots of improvements to our H&S policy. One of the main issues we are facing is dust supppression. All the new machines we have installed are water based whih will really reduce the dust. We have also had to install jet wash hoses at various points in the yard so we can easily clean the yard on a regular basis.

We have just started to build up our interior range. The range consists of Turkish travertine, Portugese limestone & German limestone. It all needs to be kept indoors so it gets to the client in clean condition.

This is one of our new sawn sandstoene products. Its kandla grey sandstone (mega hard) sawn six sides, sandblasted and lightly brushed.

Nothing to do with paving but look at that for a breakfast
