"no" springs to mind, but then the website is called paving expert not paving bodge, so maybe my attitude is is not in line with your thinking. the other thing that springs to mind is why bother with the terram?

to be fair, it depends on in what circumstances the gravel is used for.
I recently had to install a small gravel garden, into which the client wanted to plant grasses and ferns etc.. So a membrane was put on prepared ground, and shingle put over the top. If i had used a sub base, then the customer would not have been able plant!

hold on fella's you don't know the circumstances of the post. It's possible that he's having a disagreement with someone who has done or wants to do this to his property. Even if Thats not the case then a bit less passive aggression and a simple no it won't work would suffice. The more arsey our replies on here the more intimidating it is for newbies to post genuine queries ultimately ending with the site getting a bad reputation.

my thoughts entirely, theres a lot of aggressive posters on this forum that want to knock people who are asking for advice. ive had this first hand myself from people who have knocked my work (in a harsh manner) yet have posted pictures of work thats easily faulted...

lets not forget there are people coming here to learn, myself included

knocking other posters wont make you the be all and end all

Think what Pablo means is that 90% of the posters on this forum asking questions are not from a construction background and as such have no idea of how it works in the construction industry banter wise.

I do agree with LLL that no-one was rude etc but we all could have been more forthcoming with the reasons why etc (which are all clearly laid out in the main site).

It must take a fair bit of courage to post for the first time asking for help etc.

Anyway, "generally" it's not best practice to do what you are proposing.

Rab - I gave immediate link to the relevant page - OP in his very first post, gave no intro info on their situ, almost an abstract question, no location, size, nothing....
