Well
as you may know or not ive been having a few problems at home with a rsj in the lounge which is now sorted and previously i laid a block paving drive out the front, and a indian sandstone patio out the back, oh and a lintel in the kitchen and venting the loft space as it was all getting very damp....

oh and doing my full time job as well...

all of which i managed to do myself and the mrs that is on our own, with a massive input from you lot on here, so a big thanks to you all for your help and advice top stuff...

The problem we have now is we have a rat that keeps trying to get into out house, and it has succeed in the past but we have since had pest control round who have laid bait.

tha bait has now gone a few days ago 3 to 5 days and this morning we heard it again trying to get in but it was unable to but we could hear it knoring away at things, im quite concerned about it as we have cables pipes and what not under the floorboards.

Now im a firm believer in trying to stop them getting in under the house at all let alone into the house.

whats my best options to try and stop this we have tried traps and such things but to be honest i want to stop them or it completly if i can.

Now short of pouring a cemment base into the bottom of the house whats the best way to go forward please.

i would like to point out that when i done the driveway out the front i did lay a new water mains pipe into the house and also the gas board did come round about a year later and ley a new gas pipe into the house.

so im guessing the first place to look is under the floor boards around the pipes...

whats your pointers/advice/tips on this please

many thanks simon

Get a cat, it will be done with the rat in no time at all plus it will get rid of any other vermin as well.

we always used to have rat and mouse problems. so what i do is put a bag of rat poison down a piece of electric ducting (thats a 2 inch plastic pipe) and put it down the wall side out of harms way. then every couple of weeks check and top it up. you can buy the poison in tubs from your local agricultural supplier.

Go to your local agricultural shop feed merchant etc and they will have poisoned corn that you put along side a wall in a covered tube etc, they like to feed under cover and will run along Walls etc. Poison them they eat it get back to the nest then die and the others eat the dead rat and poison themselves

Get yourself a nice Co2 gun and camp out for the night. I go shooting alot, ratting is one of my favorites. Make sure its a head shot, cause if they make one squeak, you will be waiting for another 3 hours to see any more, even then, they sent the babies out first. :D

Make a run up, with a bit of peanut butter, keep it in the same spot for a few nights (where you want them to be) then spend an evening potting the little buggers :D

ha ha some great tips guys thanks for that,

i was told that some poison now stops the rat from smelling im not sure if thats true or not.

well like i said in my first post the bugger was out at 0720am and we was just about to go out last night and it was back at 1900 pm so it must be getting hungry now... my son plotted up for 30mins with the air riffle but no joy...

as for stopping it getting water i thing its going to be able to get that of the cold water pipe into the house in the form of condensation....

i will keep you posted thanks again for your help
