H&s and cpcs

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows of the cheapest training centre in the north west where me and my lads can go to do the plant training?

Also got a job to price, no mad rush but risk assessments and the like are needed, only problem is i don't even know what one looks like!

Is there anywhere on the web where i can buy template copies of risk assessments, method statements, h&s and environmental policies?

initially its probably easier to factor in a company to do the risk assessments etc. they need a few weeks and site access initially but its a fast learning curve. as for cpcs, if you dont do a lot of machine work consider getting someone in who already has the card, there are loads of guys over at the www.ceforum.co.uk , and you will also get a good reply as to where you can get the training too. good forum for anyone interested in plant in the UK, specifically old stuff and british stuff. there are a few members on this forum that go there too, tell em "local diggers" sent you.

been thinking about getting myself all carded up but would be expensive for all the bits of plant we have, both excavators, dozers, rollers, site dumpers, telehandlers, backhoes, etc etc talking min £500 a test. some serious wedge and dont do that much site work and dont want to its a pain in the preverbial. my two lads both have cards on grandfather rights, our foreman as 2 cards as he has that many machines and his class 1 2 3 driving handy lad hehe.

got a few mthod statements and risk assments knocking around some where from mate who used to be site agent for galifords but there is so much bs in them be better to get a firm in to do it for you. good luck with the tender though, remember the way big sites work means you get about 25% less done than on your own job

hey giles even your 2 lads who got there tickets on grandfather rights would of had to do a test on each catagory.

nope, no tests local big plant hirer signed off his log books etc he hasnt done a test. he is 54 odd started on the draglines etc

think you better do some home work giles, i've had my ticket since the late 80's when i got it on grandfather rights, this is the citb i'm talking about and was the first liecence reconised. think about 10 years ago i had to take h+s test and tested on each cat on my liecence 180.360 etc.

hes redone his h&s test but no practical test on machines for the cpcs etc started out as citb they didt last long till they change the acronyms, the plant hirer has a test centre in the yard though

oh right, all i know is to keep the ticket that you got on grandfather rights you have to do a practical test on each machine unless you know someone who has a test centre :;):
i've never had to show mine for years. if i were you its not worth it, its not the law.

Unless you're a medium to large company it makes no financial sense to put staff through anything other than the basic H&S/ abrasive wheel etc courses. I do the basic ones but employ the guys with the right tickets as and when I need then. It's cheaper and means you're not paying digger driver wages to a fella who's pushing a wheel barrow half the time. A 360 course over here is 2 grand and unless you know someone then you have to do it even if you've got years on it. Most fella's on here would fail any plant test if they just rocked up and did it in the same way you would your driving test. I stupidly let my cards lapse and had to beg to just sit the tests. I eventually got an instructor to give me a day show me the ropes and then got tested the next morning. As for the paperwork and statements get a firm to draw some up specific to your company then each job is just a case of copy and paste. Doing that was one of my best investments it's peace of mind and free's your time up.

In all done over two days £1630.00 + vat from monks contractors, what do you think?

Still need to do my b+e licence yet as well.

Dont even mention the streetworks and other tickets!

Right so the consencus is i should get a firm in for the h&s? i just wanted to know what each looked like so i had better idea iykwim.

Are those prices based on you all having good experience in the machines. My telehandler ticket was a week long course no way could you be a safe operator after 2 days especially if you have the other licences thown in aswell and a days H&S training. I wouldn't put the labourer through anything unless he signed a payback clause on a contract incase he left before you get your moneys worth. Prices are good if you are just doing the tests.

found this company very helpfull as had to provide risk ass for local authority work. safety services direct brought the risk ass plus cd 2 disks covers everthing stihl saws plant open digs chippys and there tools basically all risk ass from working at height well everything to do with construction, all set out very well all you do is put in the job ref or address. just install the disk and print no subscription needed and they were quite cheap on some of the ppe.
