funny enough giles the people i get it off loose either bradshaws or redmans get it from the railway good 's yard in luton

the big quarries and the blue circle (now lafarge) plant has its own railway line we have huge 30 carriage stone trains going thunder along with a few thousand tons of stone on them, better than on the roads. i must drive past 6 to 8 quarries and the cement plant on my way to the yard, some no longer in use but others still going strong.

Thanks for the info chaps. I got the bulk bag delivered and spent the morning barrowing it all into place and levelling ready for the wacker plate. Unfortunately looking at the levels on the upper area it falls towards the house and they made up the sub base out of ballast that has been bound with some amount of cement. I don't think they can have mixed it too well as some areas are rock hard and others just turn back to ballast when you put the fork in it.
To get the falls correct I'm going to have to remove this stuff, I'm guessing it will have to go to the tip and be replaced with some more type 1. I think I'll build the step up next though as I'm feeling proper broken from a morning with a wheelbarrow. lol.

I've taken a slight detour on some other projects but the weather has got me back on the outside jobs
Can I reuse this stuff that I mentioned above or bin it and get some type 1 in (whats the min thickness of type 1?)?
On the main site the bedding layer calculator for flags comes out with a 10:1 sharp sand:cement mix but nearly every post on here recommends a 5:1 mix I take it the latter is the one to go for for bedding a light grey indian sand stone?
So for my 20m2 of paving I'm going to go for 2 bulk bags of sharp sand and 14 bags of dust which I think works out about right?
