Haing recently moved into a new build house, I have nearly turned the field out the back into a garden. The last piece is to create a sunken area (to make best use of the slope) -20sqM including steps down - I'm keen on this being white(ish) gravel with seating and a fire pit in the middle. I've found some gravel: 14mm Ledmore marble £67/t, and have been looking at permeable membranes: TDP115 (£70 for 50sqM). The earth has been levelled and is reasonably compacted by foot - the rain tends to sit on the surface.
Questiions:
I've read about TDP115 being good for driveways - is it too good for my job? Also, if it isn't completely covered by the gravel, does it degrade in direct sunlight?
I'm planning on having 40-50mm of gravel - what will this be like to walk on, i.e. will it scuff and reveal the membrane or will it be like wading? (or just right?!)
To prevent bad scuffing I thought about hiring a compactor plate to get a reasonably flat finish but I'm concerned that I may damage the membrane. Is this likely to happen?

You'll guess I'm a newbie to this kind of thing but with help from this website, I've already laid a patio from scratch.

(Sorry, appear to have posted this under 'block paving'! can I move it up to the Brew Cabin?)
Thanks
JayG
