seriously though giles, it wasn't meant to cause offence, and you have already answered the question as to why it wasn't there. after all, we cannot see what the subgrade is like.
We live in an area where the subgrade is very suspect, and we always use terram. End of.

i brought it two ton of soil on the trailer but had to make room for it
Don't worry I'm smiling as I type just think people think geotextile is this amazing stuff, it helps in the right circumstances and is great for a separation layer but if it's bad ground won't be a panacea to make it stable

giles. just read that link. As you were using the tractor to haul waste material away, and carry plant for non agricultural purposes, you not only need a licence, but you must use white diesel also. (naughty boy again!)

for your vehicle to be exempt from operator licensing, it must be used for 'hauling' one or more of the following:
* threshing appliances or farming implements
* articles for a farm or forestry estate required by the vehicle keeper - this exemption applies whether you're the occupier of the farm or you're a contractor employed by the occupier to work on the farm or estate
* a farm or forestry estate's agricultural or woodland produce within 15 miles of the farm or forestry estate which the vehicle keeper occupies
* material for spreading on roads to deal with frost, ice or snow within 15 miles of a farm or forestry estate
* articles for forestry estate, whether the vehicle keeper is the occupier of that estate or is an employee or contractor that the occupier has employed to do forestry work on the estate
* soil for landscaping or similar works
hmmm I cant see moving soil and tarmac from old driveway or transporting MOT type 1 for use on a domestic driveway in that lists.....have i missed it some where Giles ?

No. when you drive round the M25 from heathrow going clockwise, just past J16 there is a viaduct you drive under. years ago there was a graffiti artist who went round the M25 signs, writing PEAS all over them. He managed to climb up this, and write PeaS on the brickwork. someone followed a few years later and added "give" and "a chance" to it!

Might have me on the operators license but reckon I could argue the soil for landscaping route, dan do all the people you hire crushers to have permits under the Pollution prevention and control act 1999?

Micro crushers from TCP like we run are exempt from the regs Giles as they are to small, go up a size in red rino or similar they come into regs.
As long as the crusher is on the truck no tacho needed, only if towed on a trailer. MSH

yes i had one factory fitted when i brought the truck, and i have the digital drivers card. I leave the card permanently in the slot, even when i am not towing the trailer.
the crusher licence, as MSH states, is only for the larger machines. Its 15hp and above, so all the red rhinos HAVE to have it. Its a thousand Per year, plus you have to fill in a daily log book, and let the authorities know where it is at any one time.
Fortunately my crushers are exempt.

Incidentally, we had an unfortunate incident near us a few years back when a FAstrac towing a trailer careered into a bus stop, killing a child. the owner had no operators licence for what he was doing, and was imprisoned. Scary stuff

you are right dave. My tacho says i am speeding when i go over 30!, yet NO ONE will help me alter this, or teach me how to use it properly.
Like i say, I have left the card permanently in the slot, and i now just ignore it. I never drive more than 2 hours let alone the four they say, and i also cannot backup the data as again, i do not know how to do it.
