A similar one in the paper yesterday but the driver was trapped in the cab and drowned. Yesterday on my job two major crane incidents. First one lads down a manhole lifting an half radius heavy timber shutter out, cradle fashion, rather than choking the strops. The strops came off when shutter was above them ( yes i know should'nt be in a small space when lifting above them , i did tell them before hand. ) Had to run and lift shutter off one guy but was'nt seriously hurt. Four lads in manhole trapped with shutter wedged above them until it could be re-slung. second incident forks driver behind navvy crane on blind side without permission and crane slewed around into him. Smashed cab up and driver well shook up as was trapped and could'nt go back or forward. Then the crane started tracking back into him. Luckily forks driver walked away to, or should i say ran....straight to the toilet :p

We had one on a gas job, the driver was holding a 36" pipe up for welding. It was hours at a time ,so being a sunny day he nodded off in the cab and slumped on the controls, 7 blokes in the trech with a 20ft x 36 " pipe wobbling towards them.......all hell broke loose. :O
The crane company held an investigation and decided it was a problem with the crane
Some things you see on site really do leave you wondering........
