I suppose some of your will have seen this but for those who missed out....

The recession in construction has continued to affect suppliers’ marketing budgets and despite the hard work of the sales team and goodwill from the market, the current level of commitment to next year's show is not what we had hoped and our feeling is the show is unlikely to meet our expectations. We therefore feel that we have no alternative but to cancel the show.

Since the closure of Contract Journal, RBI has supported SED with the monthly magazine Site Equipment Manager, and the website SED365.co.uk. Both these brands will close with immediate effect as a result of the cancellation of the show.

Thank you for your support of SED and the other RBI construction brands over the years, it has been much appreciated.

Robert Brighouse
Managing Director

So: I read that as saying that SED is over for good. Closing down a website which costs next to nothing to operate suggests they are pulling out of the concept altogether. And after all that trumpet-blaring about multi-year deals after to move to Rockingham!

Agreed Tony. They should of stayed in milton keynes until they sought a less costly placement but is a real shame.

LLL as you were saying Ireland going bust!

back on track with sed, the reason they could not drum up enough interest is the the fact that they got far too greedy in what they were trying to charge for even a modest stand
The company that makes my skip loader and crusher, used to have a very small plot, with a small office, a couple of machines, and a 10' x 10' demo area, and for that they were charged nearly 20k.
They never recouped that in sales leads from the show, and as a result, pulled out.
The jcb stand cost them 200k i am informed.
What it needs is proper organising, reasonable costs for exhibitors, and a better layout.
It would be a shame if it went forever, but the organisers only have themselves to blame

Most of these events charge for a set floor space per stand and then charge extra for foot traffic through the door. no foot traffic = no event :(

foot traffic or footfall as its known in retail is complete BS
my mrs has a stall in luton indoor market
when she got it they claimed 20k footfall per week
but a good proportion of these are dreamers/drifters/dossers just keeping warm till their hostel lets them back in
TBH expos are dead on their feet when a company can spend a fraction of the cost on a decent web presence and get nationwide leads from that
its another thing the net has killed off
i surfed in to this site the other day
flint work and i emailed the guy complimenting him on his work
why would he need to pay 10 grand to anyone for a 3 day stand?
cheers LLL
