Hi all

Just need a bit of advice, i am thinking of building a garage alongside a neighbors retaining wall about 3ft from the wall.

Is it a no no or can it be done, would it mean deeper footings, the wall is about 10ft high.

I am thinking if it cannot be done in brick i might do it in timber your thoughts ?

probably dig 2 metre cubed pads and do a ground beam
but you need an arch and/or an engineer
we are having exactly the same issues in knebworth and the retaining wall is only 1 metre high

Cheers m8 i will have to ring up and engineer and see.

Nextdoor seems to think i won't get permission but i tend to think if there is a will there is a way.

Its cost i guess that maybe the deciding point

just be cost, everything is possible. might make you mass fill a concrete footing to below the wall to stop any push on his wall, then his wall just becomes cladding.

but get an engineer to do the calcs
