We are having a new drive laid (not sure whether flags or blocks yet). Our present drive is flags and the joints are filled with mortar which has needed relacing several times over the years. We are wondering if it is possible to have no infill at all, either sand or mortar, and if this would save on regular maintenance? We have tried looking at the website but can't find a definate answer. Is that because there isn't one?
Cheers

flags=pointin/polymeric sand.
blocks=jointing sand.

They all need maintenance if you are running a tonne and a half vehicle on and off regularly.

If you want (relatively) maintenance free you need tarmac or pattern imprinted concrete.
full bed only - spot and dabs are the scourge!!

Jointing of paving is necessary so that friction will hold paving in place and stop them buckling ( for want of a better word ) for cbp you need silica sand swept in, larger units need to be pointed. If largerc units are butt jointed you can use a slurry swept into the joints. For a drive it is wiser to use small element paving, tarmac, or, as suggested pic.
