Worked alot on farms, and the common sort of get-rid easily scheme is 'sickening'. Basically you just keep giving them shitty shitty jobs, an impossible timeline, and everything they do isnt good enough (even if it is). Yes it means continuing to pay wages, but it usually gets them to jack it in of their own choice, rather than going through the whole sacking procedure.

we started a new brickie last week
the wage bill has gone up by 25% but the output by 50%
sounds like these pair are doing it in reverse

Can you sack someone who is off sick I'd think that was a can of worms I wouldn't want to open. If he has written complaints then yes thats good enough to bin them.
