Hire something decent.
Whacker plate won't be man enough for any sub base compaction anyway.

I got given a brand new Chinese wacker plate (petrol motor) as part payment for a job in Angola. I used it on my next job and it did not last half a day - it shook itself to pieces and we could never put it back together satisfactorily.
Don't buy a wacker unless you can buy a decent one. I have an Ammann Yanmar AVP2220, I think, and it has lasted ages but it would have cost a fortune new. I got mine second hand.

Be VERY careful
I purchased one from e bay a few years ago. It looked just like one I had hired 10 - 15 years ago from a plant firm.
Looked nice when it arrived. and still would be, but I did a silly thing.
I tried to use it, every part is a cheap copy of the original and falls to bits.
Had to replace the rubber mounts, bolts, belts, covers etc.
If you get one just keep it to look at . Do Not start it.
