Considered by some to be the best war film ever made.out at a few selected cinemas now, or dvd on amazon in november.

Restrepo chronicles the deployment of a platoon of U.S. soldiers based at a remote Afghan outpost, considered one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military. There are no interviews with generals or apologetic diplomats and the distinct lack of moral or political analysis means that it's a completely unflinching examination of modern warfare.

Restrepo has had fantastic reviews - sounds absolutely terrifying -

On the other hand - just done a bit of music for new brit gangster movie, just come out, selected cinemas, (ha ha,) called "Freight".
Guardian review - precis -
"A barely serviceable human trafficking thriller that gets less thrilling and more ludicrous as it progresses. Julie, the daughter of portable toilet entrepreneur Gabe, gets kidnapped by Romanian gangsters. (Or maybe they're Russian, the film doesn't care enough to make it clear.) Shoehorned together are cage fighting, lap dancing and illegal labour, all plot elements torn from the headlines then hastily stuck together to make what passes for a script. Gabe's business means we get lines like "I will burn every toilet you have!"; presumably they are supposed to be taken seriously, but it's impossible. Some of the stunts and fights aren't too bad, but almost everything else is."

Shame - I know that the director stuggled tooth & nail to raise the money, and call in every favour to get his film made. Sometimes we have to learn to delegate.

Restrepo - trailer
Freight - trailer
ps - ain't been paid yet....

Any film is worth a look suggs'. If it makes someone laugh, then that's good. I've sat through some crap ( no pun intended ) just to see if it gets better.

finally got my life together and watched restrepo last night
not a bad film by any means, but nothing special either

I thought that "our war" following the brits in afghan is far more realistic (i know its a documentary but you know what i mean)

to me the whole yank approach is about overwhelming fire and air support, their meetings with the village elders was a "do what we say or else " scenario

it was a sad tale alright, but i still dont know why we have troops in afghan?

Agreed restrepo was good but over-hyped. the next must see is: Armadillo

"Award-winning film director Janus Metz arrives in Afghanistan with a group of young soldiers on their first tour of duty. Stationed on the Helmand frontline in Camp Armadillo the platoon fights increasingly fierce battles with an enemy that is nearby but rarely seen. Metz captures life on the frontline with an uncompromising and intense vision, bearing witness to the realities of the combat zone.

As the fighting intensifies the effect of modern warfare is gradually realized as exhaustion, fear and adrenaline set in. Idealism meets paranoia in an authentic gun battle and decisions are made that can never be reversed. Gripping, thought provoking and visceral, this is as close as you get to battle action from the edge of your seat"
