im building a patio and want the height to be door sil level, this would mean going about 150mm above damp course. My question is, is it possible to build a wall say 150mm away from building fill gap between wall and existing building with pea shingle and then lay slabs across the gap, alowing the water to drain through past the damp course?

i take it you are going for a flush threshold neil
you will need some sort of linear channel right next to the wall to take water away and the patio will butt up to this
similar to this
thing is when we did this we knew it had to be flush so we installed 2 dpcs and a cavity tray in the brickwork as we were building it
in your case if its an existing wall you may need to install code 4 lead flashing where ever the paving encroaches on the 150mm rule and install the linear drain
it may seem like a lot of agg,but so is damp
