I would like to use a semi dry bedding mix for my patio.

I wanted to get 6mm gravel for the mix but all the local suppliers only do 10mm gravel. Will this be OK?

I have already bought the sand so don't want to use ballast instead.

If 10mm gravel is too large, is there anything else I can use instead?

Many thanks

Helen

If you are using a grit sand which you should be then you dont need to add any stone to the bedding mix for a patio just the sand and cement. Alan D.

The semi-dry bedding mix I show on the main website can be made, as Alan said, using just grit sand and cement, or you have the option to replace some of the grit sand (the fine aggregate) with a gravel, which is referred to as coarse aggregate.

Ideally, a 6mm gravel would be used, because of the relatively thin layer of bedding material that would be used, but, if 10mm is what you have, then there's no problem in using it, as long as the bed depth is a minimum of around 20mm.

Many thanks for the replies. Very helpful.

We have decided not to use the gravel part at all.

We will start on the patio over the bank holiday weekend, so fingers crossed for a bit of fine weather!

Best wishes

Helen
