Thickness for a driveway

Hi, my sub base consists of loose hardcore, 3 inches of crusher run, 2 inches of sharp sand and then between 70-100mm of cement.

My question is will 20mm thick sandstone flags be thick enough to drive a car on with the base I have made without them cracking?

Read the main site it will tell you what subbase you need. But 20mm flags are not really strong enough for a drive. If you must use them lay them on a concrete mix and make sure they are fully bedded.

do you mean a proper cast in situ concrete slab of c20-c30 construction?

Was going to use a 6:1 mix using sharp sand & cement mixed onsite.

how big is your driveway?

makes no sense to mix anything over a metre cubed onsite unless access is bad, ready mix or volumetric(barrow mix) better mix proper strength and cast all in one go rather than batching it in a mixer and at about £80/m for bought in its cheaper than mixing it yourself.

Have an area of 56.4 sqm. So do they turn up & just pour it out? The driveway packs I have been looking at are put together using a number of different size pieces, would it not be a race against time before the concrete sets??

no as you lay a concrete slab first, and then bed your slabs/flags onto the concrete slab.

the concrete gives it strength to take the weight of the car, but indian stone ecpecially 22mm is not recommended for driveway use.

i'd spend a few hours reading the main site if i were you there is a wealth of information on there.

Ok thanks 4 that, think I will try & find some 50mm sandstone rather than take the risk of cracking the flags with the car.

Not alot of places do a 50mm sandstone, they are all 15mm - 40mm. Any stockest in the north west you know of?
