Hi

I am planning to lay some block paving with different coloured block as the edging. The blocks will be the same size as the main blocks. The edging blocks will be cemented in and I will screed between them with sharp sand and lay the rest.

I will compact the sand before laying the blocks but when I compact the blocks after laying them, how do i ensure that they do not sink below the level of the edging stones?

Any advice on this is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you screed your sand to appox 5-7mm above finished level then it will reduce to the right level when compacted. Use a piece of wood with a notch the size of the block cut out of it(make sure you add 5-7mm to the cut so when you screed it it will sit proud).
Can't see it from my house

Thanks Pablo. Does that 5-7mm still apply if I've compacted the sand before laying the blocks?

Yes, I mean 'cemented' in with a concrete base and haunch.

We don't "Cement". It is concrete, or morter etc; cement is just an additive to them.

Thanks for your clarification seanandruby, I never knew that :;):

If I need to post again I'll try to make sure I get my terminology correct.
