Laying crushed slate over block paving

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Can someone please advise if it ok to lay slate chippings over an existing block paved driveway - we are on a really tight budget but need to spruce up the front of the house - the old block paving is now a bit shabby looking and not very flat! Other than parking the car and access to the front door it doesn`t get heavily used. Will this be ok? I have read the FAQs and understand it isnt really recommended but does anyone have an opinion either way - will it be ok for now?
