Hello All.

Well I wish I'd found this forum before, I start my project in the morning!
I'm block paving our drive 15m x 4m with a single block edging with the blocks laid
long edges together.

Anyway, first question of probably loads...............

After I've dug out, do I spread the type1 in the fresh dug hole first before I lay the edgings
or do I lay edging course first and then have the type1 tipped in between the edgings, as
I intended having the entrance only 2.4m wide for the first 4m then tipper truck wouldn't
be able to fit in if the edger's were in first.

Regards.

You should have the whole drive dug out and DTP1 spread, wackered etc: Once you have that done you have a clean sub-base work area to lay your edgings to.

Would you then have to dig channels in the type1 to take the mix that the edging blocks are set in, or they will be to high.

200mm dig out
100mm type1
35mm sand
65mm block

100mm mix under edgers, so a 35mm channel?

yes, make sure you have a good bed of concrete and haunching. No need for sand under concrete edgings.

Just one other thing.

How deep do I spread the MOT type 1, to BEFORE I compact it with the vib/roller? I'm aiming to get a compacted finish of 100mm. I don't want to put to much in that it won't compact down enough.

Regards.

depends how big a wacker or roller your using but i would try about 75mm down from finish level good compaction and then top up or reduce to suit, it shouldn't be too far out though.

I think of it the other way round from base up, so you recon on a 125mm spread, that's only 25mm over the 100mm for compaction, is that enough? (walk behind vibrating roller)

I don't think it will go down much more than 25mm but you can always top it up, easier than having to dig any out.
