Hi all

Bit of advice. Busy planning a job for the local kids sports club which involves some paving where the levels will not work to the existing tarmac path/roadway. Solution is to cut the existing tarmac back a metre then do the groundworks/edgings, re-tarmac to the new level of paving - it will work really well for rainwater/trip hazards etc which are partly the driver for doing the work in the first place.
Now, with what I could write down about tarmac, you would possibly have enough paper to re-wallpaper the downstairs loo, in a dolls house. Well, maybe only one feature wall. You get the idea!

The area is frequented by pedestrians, groundscare Kubota's and the likes, occasional cars, and the brewery wagon for the bar.

The plan was that the landscaper ;) does the paving and prep work and then a helpful parent with a tarmac company (not banditos) comes in to do his stuff on pre-prepared groundworks. I suspect we will be excavating, or putting in edging in for levels, to leave a depth of 150-200mm (I will take advice on this from you chaps). The area is 45-50m2, narrowing to 2m from 3 at the high side, 20m length, healthy camber.

What is a reasonable amount to pay him to literally drop the stuff, spread, roll and shoot off for this area? I just have no clue. He gave me a price but I got a bit of a shock!

I have to make a presentation to the parish council asap.

Cheers guys.

All depends upon access etc but if it is good a ballpark figure would be in the region of £1150+VAT for both layers (50mm binder course and 25mm 6mm surface course) - that is assuming your prep works are good and accurate. If your stone levels are on the low side, it will take more tarmac - so £££.......
