Hello. My contractor is installing Indian Stone slabs and I have a query re the sub-base. The sub-base consists of a layer of small stones with cement then MOT then a sand/cement mix. The bottom 2 layers have been down for about 6 weeks. The contractor says that because it has been down so long and we have had so much rain, the job does not need to be compacted. Is he correct? Thanks.

Probably too late now, but I'd want to pay him off for work done and say goodbye, thanks anyway!
If he thinks that rain is going to compact type 1 in a few weeks, what on earth kind of other gaffs will he do on the rest of the job?!?

He'll probably spot bed, give you pools where you don't want them and jointing will likely fail in a couple of months!

Push him off with a bargepole if you still can!
