Hi
Want to tarmac my drive (c 100 sq metres). Existing drive is gravel and traffic utilising it will be my car / visitors car only. Got a quote last month from a recommended contractor whose advice was to lay 10mm Bitmac base course at 60mm thick.
I know nothing absolutely nothing about this but thought you would always put a base coat down, then a finish coat on top. Contractor told me I was wasting my money as this was not needed, given likely use of driveway.
Is this correct?
Would appreciate some advice please!!
Thanks

Terrible spec.
I would spec 50/60mm of 20mm dense binder course or even road base - the thickness depends upon the future intended traffic loadings.....
A rough costing for 100m2 assuming good access etc would be in the region of £1200+VAT
This would then give you the option in future to lay a surface course, if funds didn't allow at this point in time.
Again, a rough costing for both layers in one visit would be in the region of £2200+VAT
