It's a very old style inspection chamber,in a clay pipe work line,
possible rodding point, more like a inspection chamber from a toilet MSH :)

yeah i think it must be a roding point there was another about 12 feet from it then another 2 round the corner its at my local drs the manager is tight fisted so it looks like hes had them replaced by a monkey ??? i was doing some work as a " sample " :;): as odd as that sounds :D cutting back some bushes so the dr dosnt have to have the light on ! i agree with its an old style inspection chamber or rodding eye, look shallow in depth as you can see the top of a collar just visible in the grass/clover

how on earth could you trip over something so bright in colour Michael ??

Its just a cover and frame sat on top of the last brick course/concrete ring.

Lazy/poor workmanship but its probably been there 20/30 years.

Tell the DR you need to replace it, or at least, reset it with compo.

i emailed him to tell him and he said ....
I was already aware that the drain/inspection cover is both rusty and not fixed down, and this should be rectified later today by Builders who agreed to carry out the work some 2 months ago.

2 months wait for such a small job seams a bit long to me but on the plus side he wants me to quote for some more work :)
