Gun injection mortar - Making your own

Does anyone make their own mortar for gun injection pointing?
I have a faithfull gun but have only experimented with it briefly so far. Can anyone reccomend a formula that uses sbr? Is sharp sand advisable or only soft & I already have concentrated Sikka plasticiser. What is the technique for avoiding voids?

I have done it before,2-1 very soft sand,it is a hard job to get correct need lots of plasticiser,its a job you need to mess around with and learn from experiance, don't thinck the SBR will help much in the gun mix
Don't bother with that just buy some instamac or easipoint gun mortar MSH

Who do you get yours from? We have accounts with TP, Builder center (no longer in bury st eds) & Kent Blaxill.
Which has better adhesion & strength or are they similar?
The reason I ask is that we lay Global Stone Indian sandstone which is very porous. From previous threads I now know to pre wet but does this apply to the above 2 mortars?

with regards the pointing guns, ive recently started using a Pro Build one (similar to silicone gun). i no several brickies who use them on large pointing jobs. its all in the mix for sure! i faffed around trying to get it right and gave up. So went with my mate who uses them most days. secret is

a. 4 parts building sand, 1 cement, half a lime, small dash feb.

b. whisk up in gorilla tub so its very creamy. slightly wetter than gobbo.

c.do small area at a time (mortar dries quick)

d. re whisk your mix often.

e. use rubber gloves coz of lime!

f. never force the mix thru the gun, empty the tube and re fill.

g. always wash out the tube and nozzel when re filling.

h. stick with it though its fiddly at first but about 3 times faster than normal methods. grind out good 20mm and pump to the back. you will get the hang of it

With regards the above its how we do walls but im sure if you adjust the strengths of mix to suit. People who use them i no say the lime is the key to it flowing without separating in the gun. On Indian i would imagine you have to lay them with your joints more uniform to make it easier to use a gun. I use a small gardeners spray gun to wet joints up.

Thanks for the advice. Do any of the people you know put sbr in the mix or use products like Easipoint point or Instarmac? The last 2 come highly reccomended.
I like the idea of the sparayer for pre wetting - makes sense.

Ive no idea about the other products working thru the gun, trial and error im afraid. but i wouldnt think they would work. And you have to remember if you have any issues and you havnt used as per instruction then you wont have any comebacks. Never really use SBR much so maybe someone else could help you with that one. one thing i do no is Indian paving seems to have more problems than any other type! And most of what i see nowadays is very poor quality so tread carefully.

you also want to be pointing really with sharp sand/ grit sand/plastering sand etc the more coarse sand than the mix mentioned for pointing brickwork etc.

the problem as anyone will tell you is that sharp sand looks cack pointed
a mixture of plastering sand and soft sand and high cement ratio works best
obviously in exposed locations it must be sharp alone
