Hi folks, well I'm brand new to this site, and relatively new to the landscaping world - out on me owneo..sniff! This site is like manna from heaven, I've been readin it for the last two days and I have to say I'm on information overload - I have read the main site so I'm really just looking for an ok, and hopin to avoid a pair of spurs.
Now I've backed myself into a corner and am now set to do a basic patio using 400x400x40 concrete slabs, perimeter laid on mortar, inner laid on approx 40mm paving grit with 10:1 cement(as per this site!), all sittin on 90-100mm hardcore, and am presuming to use sand for the joints. It falls toward a sleeper wall, so any comments on how to handle drainage there would be welcome too, - btw I'm asking cos I've never laid slabs on anything other than mortar but the money isn't there for it. cheers

How high is the wall, or rather how deep. Was thinking you could put a filter drain, or channels. Sounds ok to me what you are intending. You'll be fine, just pop back if it gets difficult.
Cheers Sean, glad for the reassurance! In terms of the sleeper wall, its literally two sleepers high, 18inches,with prob 3 inches below the level of the top of the slab, anchored on rebar rods sitting on the hardcore, and a deadman in the soil. I was thinkin of simply having a 2 inch gap beyond the slab filled with uncompacted gravel but I wonder would there be too much of a flow, chance of undermining the hardcore, or maybe too much water against the sleeper? The filter drain could be the way to go alright tho it'd be less aesthetic, the sleeper wall basically is a fat cross shape so I'd be following along those contours, oh what to do, what to do
