has anyone managed to find a decent set of gloves for laying blocks and slabs in, ive tried maybe 15 pairs and they are always wrecked within a few days with a few exceptions of lasting a week maybe more. the best i ever had were an old pair of firemans gloves, they didnt wear through but i had to give them back. that said a little too thick for any decent feel. the blaklader gloves in yellow leather were pretty good too but again we soon killed those. i invariably end up going back to bare hands but this week i came home with bleeding fingers tips and its just not good.

i use showa therma XL for most days, great when you're in a trench repairing drains or just day to day. repeated handing of bricks etc kills anygloves on the thumb and index finger, one of our brickies wears marigold washing up gloves, swears by them.
then have a thick pair of quilted hide gloves for anything nasty(quick thorn etc or hot) or lots of vibration

i keep a box of nitrile disposable gloves in my truck for working on engines or anything nasty like rompox etc. they're better than the latex ones that dissolve in diesel.

by brick hand you mean the hand not on the trowl, you heard the rumour about brickies pissing on their hands for the amonia to stop the cracking from drying out due to the mortar or were the brickies winding me up about their mate old tom?

Old man wears gloves all day long - I can't just doesn't feel right.
Wear the gloves like Giles if I'm handling lots of concrete products and/or concrete, but thats about it.
Oh and the blue nitrile ones for foul drain works.
