I have recently had laid a new patio. The slabs (riven) become very slippy underfoot when wet which is dangerous for kids.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

The flippant answer would be to tell you not to send the kids outside when it's raining, but hey! Kids can be a real PITA when they're trapped in the house. ;)
A light sprinkling of grit sand would increase traction in the wet, and it's a non-permanent solution that won't harm the kids or the paving.
There are some 'enhanced-traction sealants' available, but they are aimed more at office car parks and areas of concrete hard-standing, rather than patios.
You don't say what type of flags you have. Most concrete flags are manufactured to meet a minimum slip value that is intended to offer a modicum of safety, but some of the imported stone flags, and some of the budget concrete offering don't always manage these quite meagre requirements, and, in such cases, the sprinkling of sand is the easiest option.
