Problems with patio

Hi i have just has some major landscaping done at my house which included a raised curved patio and path with steps adjoining the 2. The stone used was my missus choice Black Limestone. The company who have done the work layed the flags on 5" hardcore and cement based sand Dry mix and finished with a wet mortar mix. Almost immediately we have had weak mortar
joints and cracks/loose flags. They returned to rectify the flags and have now finished however i have had a closer look today and more and more flags are loose / mortar cracked. This evening i actually managed to lift up a couple of the edge flags and the dry mix seems very sandy.

A friend as stated that they should have laid the flags on a wet mix and pointed with the mortar.

Can anyone help with this What is the best medium for slabs?

What rememdy can i expect from the company?

sounds like a balls up
were they recommended to you ?
had you seen their previous work ?
all bedding must have some water in,dry mix is a failure and the lot needs to be redone

They did explain at the time of doing this that the CBS would harden like rock and be solid?

It is going to be difficult to get them back after paying then £6k+.

Can they lay the wet mix direct onto the dry mix or would they need to remove this first.

Any help would be appreciated.

Should have been on a wet mix full bed under them,4/1 or 5/1 sharp sand cement mix
you will need to remove the dry mix before relaying them,
you need to get them back to put job right, was they a established buisness if so trading standards would like to hear about them MSH

Yes limited company. He has already been back to repoint and relay a week ago.

He used 1te bags of dark brown grainy sand and mixed with cement. Not sure what the ratio was? He said at the time when i asked that he wets the mix after he has laid it to harden? We've rung him to see if he can sort but get the feeling he is gonna bodge it. Hes not going to replace the lot without a fight i think.

ALso whats the score with resin mortars are they any good. I use a company called Instarmac at work and they do a product called flopoint not sure of the benefits over std mortar?

Any advice greatly appreciated.
Is there anywhere i can get a independant report done to show this guy that he has laid them wrong. Im in Sth Yorks.

you need instamac gunpoint. flowpoint is for cobbles and crazy paving,i used the gunpoint last week brilliant stuff
