our local council has decided that we have to submit planning applications for new driveways at a cost of 180 pounds. if we dont apply and pay they can stop the job after we have started. we also have to pay for skip licenses if they are on the road 15 pound per week. does any else pay this in your part of the country?.

Skip permits are free in norfolk, but you have to apply for one in advance.
Planning has not hit this area yet,
Its up to the home owner to apply for the planning, unless you include it in the job price , but it will be a 6 week wait for planning MSH :)

Like msh says, i leave that to the home owner, but ive not heard any stories of drives having to be ripped up round here everyone is just carrying on as normal, tbh i reckon only 20% of people that do drives that i know actually have any idea of the changed legislation.

And as for skip permits, ive never paid! But i dont have many, either grab wagon, or i trailer it away in my ifor williams tipping trailer.

skip licenses are free in Manchester
£15 in Stockport
£10 in most other towns up to 4 weeks

with regards to having to apply for planning for your driveway, this should of been brought in from the start so at least everyone was singing from the same hymn book from day one

are you saying your local council have brought it in lately where you have to have planning approval for your driveway or are you referring to the change in planning legislation as of October 1st 2008 ?

if you contact planning departments in different towns you will get a different answer each time which makes it very confusing for the home owner

yes we have to apply to our local council for a planning application to renew/extend a driveway at a cost of 180 pounds. its not to bad if we are doing an extension or porch because we can tag it on the same building notice but its a rip off on small jobs. just another tax on the working man who wants to try and improve the area he lives in.

does every driveway get planning approval ?

are the driveways that get the planning approval inspected ?

I phoned my local planning department in July last year and was told that no one had submitted any driveways for planning approval since October 1st 2008 and if they did they would be turned down anyway, I was very shocked to hear these words from the chief planner

£25 for a 4 week skip permit round these parts
and the skip company has to do the paperwork so it takes 3 days
i thought as long as you comply with the regs you dont need planning for drives ,as long as you can see 45m each way when your bumper is level with the kerbline
but i could be wrong

it sounds like it is our local council making new rules and creating more work for pen pushers. hambleton council wont allow role on roll off skips on the road but middlesbrough and stockton will. are you guys allowed them at all.

Cant see the problem with ro-ro's as long as correct traffic managment is used, norfolk allows them as its a traffic issue nothing else, MSH :)

Hi mick, best ro-ro i filled was a 20yrd-over weigh bridge at 26tons filled with a heavy semi clay soil loaded with a 3 ton tracked dumper -kept compacting it tight :) skip boss gave me a public warning for it but the truck lifted it so it was gone :D :D
