I would like some comments on your thoughts about using indian sandstone slabs for a driveway. I have heard there is a special thickness for hardstanding. The hardcore base is down, I have to now decide on the finish and the indian sandstone looks reasonably priced (the place looks like a bomb site, lost me job when the job started - typical). I have also read that the sandstone should be on a 'bed of mortar' but how thick should it be. I am reasonably capable and have done many DIY jobs before but from choice not necessity. I have a fear it will end up like a bag of crisps if I don't do it properly. does it need a finish on it to protect it?
The area is quite large so should I do an area at a time? How do you stop the mortar staining the joints? Help would be much appreciated.
