Hello, Well me back is fooked and Im 31. Its taken four doctors a physio to tell me that and its took over two weeks. Chiropractor was the only one that was worried but no one from NHS took any notice and I saw her two weeks ago. Today things have stepped up a gear so got to have MRI scan, so fingers crossed its nothing too serious as I love being a Landscaper.

Anyone else had similar problems? I regret not going private as I imagine things would be completely different.

Not back pain but I had a trapped nerve in my neck last year.
I went to an osteopath who I have used before and he was great.
He was honest and told me that he could help a little but could not perform any miracles.
What he could do was tell me all the facts and figures, what the NHS could do and how best to go about it.
He recommended two appointments @ £60 a go but I went for three, the third was not so much to be bone cunched but to listen to his advice.
In my case it was mostly a case of dosing me up with Tramadoll, some massage, a few exercises and waiting.

So if I get any body pain in the future I'll visit my osteopath first. It's quicker than getting a GP's appointment and I'll either be given treatment or high quality advice.

I've suffered back problems since I was a youngster caused by too much lifting of heavy objects and not the correct tuition on how to lift safely.

Oddly enough the worst I had was when 3 discs popped out as I leaned over a bench to pick up a piece of paper (true) I was in so much pain I couldn't move. I eventually managed to get onto the bedroom floor and lie down, then I was stuck there, I couldn't get back up. Lasted about 6 weeks before I could move freely again, but the recovery lasts forever. I now have to be very careful when lifting or twisting my torso incase the discs come out again

Hope you make a speedy recovery

I was in the same position as you. Had a bad back for about four years. Now 31 and starting to get on top of it.

In my experience chiropractors are only good to fix the initial pain. I was seeing a chirporactor for over a year at one point and it did not help at all. Finally quitting the chiropractor was the best thing I ever did.

In my experience the three most important factors in curing your back are:

1. Mindset. Remember in most cases there is nothing seriously wrong with your back. Nothing that a bit of effort and hard work cant fix. So believe that it will get bettter, because it will.

2. Get back to work as quickly as possible. Otherwise your back will get weaker, making it harder to get back. Even if its light duties, just get moving!!!

3. Stretches: There are some stretches that can really help with back problems. Speak to a chirporactor/doctor and find out the ones which will help your particular problem. Then do them religously at least once a day

Dedication to the above and it will get better and stay better. Not there yet myself but have had no serious episodes in over six months. This time last year could not even sit up straight in my van.

also things like sitting right in your car/van having the seat adjusted properly etc

comfy supporting bed not a cheap mattress

sitting right at home etc all help with bad backs

i'm an 18 stone prop forward always carried a bit of excess out front canterleavered off the back and through scrummaging and work etc fingers crossed always been ok with mine.

My wife is a physio assistant, she manipulates the muscles etc on elderly and brain injured patients. She says: wait till your are able before doing exercise. My back goes quite often because i don't do the exercises when i can to strengthen the muscles. I always start off with the greatest intentions but soon get p***** off with it. I'm always being told sit up, posturise etc:

hope everything works out for you mate,
my brother who works with me, went for a mri scan last week,
he tells me the scan was more scary than the back pain,
the diagnosis was a prolapsed disc, apparently it had swollen to twice its normal size, and was in danger of touching the spine, not a nice condition to say the least
