Hi Tony,

On a real downer now working on fathers day.

I have been using your site for information for preparing to DIY a new patio.

I am using Stoneflair Regal Mellow York Riven slabs, about 40 mm thick.

I tried using your 10/1 dry mix which i screeded. to a depth of about 30 mm.

When I compacted slabs with a small rubber mallet they cracked.

I have now tried a moist mix and same has happened.

I am not sure if my mix was still to dry as it is a warm day.

The bed seems to firm or am i making a daft mistake.

Thanks

Colin

bedding layer is too thin and you are hitting them too hard
i always aim for 40-60mm of bedding
this needs to be scarified with the trowel so that when you tap it there is a little give in it
also remember never to tap the edges of the slabs
you need to be about 30% of the way in from the edge
cheers LLL
