Thats what I thought but it will all be handled by the Trading Standards. I dont think for a minute they would let me have an expensive drive put in. I would have to have the cheapest quoted by several contractors. They did not just make a mistake if that had been the case it would have been better for them to agree to put it right but they did not they refused. The other thing is it is against the law not to give a buyer 7 days cooling off period and to tell them about it in writing. It was not mentioned to us but we were told they would not start work for a week, then they turned up to "take samples" and promptly knocked the front wall down! I think they were trying to rush the job in case we changed our mind or found out they were using bogus documentation. A surveyor will assess what needs doing and Trading Standards will organize the rest; after all we are left without a drive and a huge problem to sort out. It would have been better left alone now we are in a huge mess. All we wanted was a proper job done that would last; we were not expecting homes and gardens!

Yes, I did exactly what trading standards said and halted the work. They tried to come on site and deliver pavers, but we then told them we had had advice from Trading Standards and that was to stop them.
It is such a mess, I cannot take mum out at all because she is in a wheelchair and it is almost impossible to walk on let alone push a wheelchair. We had planned her first outing tomorrow! It has just added to our problems really. It is a shame because if these guys did things properly they probably would do a really good job and be recommended for the right reasons. I could kick myself for being duped like this, but their brochure and website was so convincing. Thanks for yoour advice. M

I have personally seen the pikeys employ these bullying tactics
we were building a porch and they knocked the door of the pensioner next door
I heard a load of BS about how thick the subbase would be etc etc
the householder looked confused and scared
anyway he said no and off they went
I said to him "you did the best thing ,they would bodge it"
the next morning we turned up for work and there were 3 of them there with a machine and his front garden was dug up (sort of) and front wall gone
it makes you sick because they prey on the vulnerable
fair play to you amanda

The front garden is such a mess, so uneaven and sunken in lots of places already. However, I am relieved they have gone quite honestly. Someone suggested I use boards for the time being to get mum out of the house in her wheelchair so that is an idea. The TS guy is coming to take a written statement on Tuesday and has told us to do nothing until then. Quite honestly I don't know who to trust anymore; they looked so plausible,
Thanks to all who have taken the trouble to reply. Mandy
