Advice on sett edging - Sett edging mortar and jointing help

Hello all, I wonder if you can help?

I'm completing a DIY patio/ path project of a quite modest size and I'm losing confidence a bit.

I have a mid terraced property where I have placed a 15m2 patio against the house, but as it is a north facing garden I have a 3m path leading to the end of the 10m garden where there will be a small circular patio measuring about 2.5m diameter, followed by a small path to the egress gate.

My question surrounds the edging to these main features. I plan to use 100x100 mm setts along the edges and tapering into the circular feature, so they will run along the edge of the main sandstone patio, paths and the circular patio.

The preparation included excavation to grade, an MOT1 base wide enough for the patios and sett edging, and the patio has been laid on a 6:1 sharp cement laying course and looks fab (for my first attempt).

So...I'll get to the point...

What bedding should the setts be laid onto, and what mortar is appropriate for the haunching and jointing?

At present my instinct (from what I've read) is that I should be changing from a sharp sand bedding mix to a soft sand mix, and to decrease the ratio to a more even 3:1 soft sand:cement in order to bed and haunch the setts.

Am I in the ball park of being on the right track or am I about to complete a heinous paving sin?

NO NO NO
if anything you want to be bedding your setts on concrete and haunching them with concrete
they are an integral part of your patio
other than that your synopsis is bang on
carry on but never use soft sand for anything but laying bricks

thanks for the reply. I've been away with work and haven't got round to investigating the advice on the site re concrete, but i'll be sure to ask if I get confused again.

concrete is fine to lay setts on .so is sand and cement through a mixer .
