Well I paid more than that and I didnt ask for a "cheap load".

I know the saying - you get what you pay for but I was explicit in my needs and expectations.
The price was the same as the other quotes I got except he said he would take away 2 grabs of rubble I had.
Yeah right - he didn't, but I didn't pick them because they were the cheapest.
They are a big outfit round here and I though the more professional option is all,

I read up on this website, told them what I wanted and what it was for and they gave me a price, for what they said would do the job.

What i did say was "this is what I'm doing, I want Type 1 crushed concrete or scalps, whatever is the cheaper option that will do the job".

I wasn't trying to be cheap and cut corners.

The last house we built we bought for 340K and sold for just under £900.
I was the buyer for material and hire so I do know the ropes which is why I questioned what I got.

what you have to watch for tulip is that the bigger firms can/are very sloppy in their dealings with one off customers. :O

Hello Tuulips.
You asked for top quality Type1 and paid top money.
But the supplier tried to get one over you and give you rubbish.
I don't care how big the supplier is in my mind they are cowboys and a disgace to the industry.
An industry that many of the people on here belong to and work hard to promote as a good industry.
Well done for getting them to take it back. You must be a very persuasive person. Seriously well done.

How much for proper type1?
It's unlikely it will be limestone but a proper spec Type1 within the M25 is about £25-35/ton depending on the quantity that you buy. I'm not in the trade but expect account customers would get better prices.

sorry but you ask for crushed concrete scalpings you are not asking for top quality type 1

scalpings are either the bit between the overburden and the stone (soil and organic matter etc in it) or the scrapings up from the quarry floor again contaminated.

i can't find any reference on the the main page sub base page referring to scalpings, there is a bit on 50mm crusher run and a description of its weaknesses compared to type 1

you ask for MOT type 1 per 803 clause and you get top quality product.

that load looked ok for scalpings, seemed a high organic fines content

and reading what she said she bought the house for 340k and sold it for £900 i make that a 339910 loss :p

I think that is where the confusion is (well for me anyway)
He asked for type 1, crushed concrete.
I would of thought that was crushed concrete 35mm to dust with all the particles inbetween conforming to type1.
I guess the original poster thought the same.

Well I've learnt something. Make sure you ask for it to comply with clause 803 and make sure it says so on the receipt.
