What sand - What can i brish into the gaps

Patio flagstones (slabs), concrete flags, stone flags including yorkstone and imported flagstones.

Thanks in advance :) I have a flagstone patio which has been down 15+ years and is in good condition. However, it was never filled between the flags, and I now have an endless show of weeds. I want to put some sand (or something) in the gaps to slow down the growth. I understand that I should not use just ordinary sand. Any advice appreciated.
